With so many catch-all phrases buzzing around these days—like farm-to-table, support local agriculture and the like—it’s nice to spotlight those taking things to a whole ‘nother level. Chef and restaurateur Alan Wong has never made any overly self-congratulatory gestures regarding his steadfast use of locally-harvested produce (and proteins). His backing of the student-farming program at Ma‘o is just one example. Yet his latest game of connect-the-dots will undoubtedly land him yet again in the cross hairs of every blogger/editor who thinks they “discovered” his latest effort. And while we may be no exception, this time, Wong is elevating the mighty honey bee into the limelight.

There’s a new locale at the Kings’ Shops at Waikoloa, on the Big Island of Hawai‘i, that pays tribute to one of the most storied, modern day watermen. The Eddie Aikau Restaurant & Surf Museum opened for business this month, and if the celebrity turn-out was any gauge for its future success, well, things are looking bright.

We're a sucker for a good wine dinner: The eloquent musings of a celebrated chef, extrapolating the nuances (or how he perceives them) from a flight of wines and crafting a menu around a notion. However, it isn't every day that you hear about a beer tasting. Mark your calendars for 6:00 p.m.

If you need an excuse to get out and eat on Maui, then here it is: Restaurant Week is back at Wailea, and the deals abound between Sunday, May 23 and Saturday, May 29, 2010. In addition, a portion of every prix-fixe menu at the sixteen participating restaurants will go towards feeding the hungry at Maui Food Bank.
